Since 2003 Nancy Carter has done tens of thousands of massages more than a thousand of people. She has worked in a variety of bodywork settings, including mobile massage, corporate massage clinics, day spas, a martial arts school, and a chiropractic office. Now having her own downtown office allows her to work one-on-one with clients to achieve their goals.
As a lifelong dancer, Nancy came to massage following an interest in experiential anatomy. After completing her massage training at Wake Technical Community College, she stayed on there for three years to assist and later teach. She specializes in clinical massage, utilizing a variety of modalities, including Sports Massage, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Myofascial Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique. She has also trained in Massage Cupping, Reflexology, Hot Stone Massage, Aromatherapy, and Reiki, allowing her to pull from quite a broad tool bag.
In 2008 Nancy completed her Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis Certification and added Somatic Movement Therapy to her practice. In 2019 Nancy decided to add the GYROKINESIS® method to her repertoire and is currently an apprentice working towards full teacher status. Nancy enjoys helping people explore patterns of total body connectivity through hands-on work, active movement, body metaphor and creative exploration. In addition to her Utah massage license Nancy is a Board Certified Massage Therapist and maintains membership in Hands On Trade professional association.
2017 brought Nancy back to teaching as an apprenticeship supervisor, an alternate path to massage licensure in the state of Utah. Completing and successfully graduating the first round of apprentices into careers of their own was a deeply rewarding experience. Nancy will start training the next pair of students later this winter.
With Nancy, your session is always tailored to your unique situation. She customizes each session to meet your immediate needs, and work toward your longer term goals.
"I work with Nancy specifically because she knows her stuff! She troubleshoots with me, explains the most likely causes, points out evidence using the anatomical names, is careful with pressure vs. pain, remembers my ailments the next time, and is very effective in helping me get better!"
